Spettacolare incidente aereo a Khartoum

Un Antonov An-32 si è scontrato con un Antonov An-26 sulla pista 18 dell'aeroporto di Khartoum (KRT), in Sudan. Entrambi gli aerei erano operati dall'Aeronautica sudanese.

Le riprese video mostrano che l'An-26 rulla lungo la pista 18 e viene tamponato dall'An-32, l'ala sinistra e l'elica colpiscono la parte posteriore dell'An-26. La sezione del muso dell'A-32 sembra essersi spezzata e anche la sezione della coda dell'An-26 ha subito gravi danni.

La collisione si è verificata sulla pista 18, mentre l'aereo stava transitando sulla taxiway, circa 1900 metri oltre la soglia della pista lunga 2980 m.

An Antonov An-32 collided with an Antonov An-26 on runway 18 at Khartoum Airport (KRT), Sudan. Both aircraft were operated by the Sudanese Air Force.

CCTV video footage from the accident show the An-26 going down runway 18, being caught up by the An-32 from behind. The left hand wing and propeller impacted the rear of the An-26. The nose section of the An-32 appears to have been broken away in the accident sequence and the tail section of the An-26 also suffered serious damage. 

The collision occurred on runway 18, as the aircraft were passing taxiway C, some 1900 meters past the threshold of the 2980 m long runway.

Il primo prototipo del velivolo V-22 Osprey fu presentato ufficialmente ad Arlington il 23 maggio 1988. Il 1º dicembre 1989 il Segretario alla Difesa Dick Cheney decretò la sospensione dell'intero programma, a causa del notevole aumento dei costi di produzione. Il programma è stato in seguito riattivato e il 2 maggio 2008 si è avuta la prima missione di combattimento in Iraq dopo un semestre di impiego operativo prevalentemente nel ruolo di trasporto.
